Marvel Rivals Season 9 Brings Jubilee, a Team-Up Overhaul, and a Black Widow Rework

Marvel Rivals just had its busiest stretch of patches in months, and it landed right as the competitive calendar heats up. Season 9 arrived on July 10th with a new hero and a genuine shake-up to how Team-Ups work, and a follow-up update on July 23rd added a new map and a batch of esports-focused features timed almost perfectly for the Ignite 2026 Mid-Season Finals, which start July 29th in Los Angeles.

Jubilee joins the roster

Jubilee is Season 9's headline addition, bringing her explosive mutant kit to the roster alongside a new origin storyline. NetEase paired her debut with a serial mystery event, "The Mystery of Thebes," and a companion event called "Death of Apocalypse" that drops players into an interactive detective mini-game investigating murders tied to the fallen villain, according to the official patch notes. The Battle Pass got a refresh too, headlined by a Dead Mummy Deadpool skin and a Primal Predator Elsa Bloodstone costume.

A Team-Up overhaul and a Black Widow rework

The bigger competitive story is the Team-Up System overhaul, which reworks how paired hero abilities interact and reshuffles a meta that pro teams have been drilling for months heading into Mid-Season Finals. Black Widow got the headline single-hero change, with a significant rework to her kit and gameplay mechanics rather than a simple numbers pass. Expect teams arriving in Los Angeles to have spent the last two weeks re-testing compositions that leaned on the old Team-Up interactions.

A new map, and new tools for watching the pros

The July 23rd update added Thebes, an Egyptian-themed arena built around Apocalypse's Pyramid and the Temple of Khonshu, tying into the same storyline as Jubilee's launch event. No hero balance changes shipped alongside it — the patch was squarely about content and the viewing experience. That's most obvious in the Esports tab, which picked up subscriptions for favorite tournaments and pro players, a calendar view for match schedules and standings, and live match notifications, according to the patch notes. A Twitch Drops campaign runs July 29th through August 29th, timed to the entire Mid-Season Finals window, with a Daredevil costume and other rewards for tuning in.

None of it changes who's favored heading into Los Angeles, but it does mean fans following Liquid Citadel, Natus Vincere, and Gen.G Esports through the Play-In stage now have a proper in-client way to track it, and pros will be doing it on a meaningfully different Team-Up meta than the one they qualified on.
